Ships Log – Friday 23rd April 2010 – Brewer’s Bay St.Thomas

Well today is certainly a different day to yesterday, we had a lovely snorkel, I have found where the turtles live mainly, so we went straight to their home, we saw five all together, some with fish, whilst others were just eating the sea-grass, fascinating.

We had breakfast, got dressed ready to go to Crown Bay for the day, then it started raining, and I guess it did not stop all day, a grey English day, what a shame, we were looking forward to catching the bus to town, instead I finished my book, and Geoff played with his computer.

About 7pm the rain stopped, and we sat outside for the evening, but it really has been a horrible day.

Ships Log – Thursday 22nd April 2010 – Brewer’s Bay St.Thomas

Wake up to a lovely day again, no wind, and I think it is going to be hot. We take a snorkel around the bay before breakfast, then we have Geoff’s bread toasted, it was lovely, no yeast taste, he is really chuffed.

Straight after breakfast we go for another dip, it is going to be one of those days. I go on internet, to sort my tenant out, not a pleasant man, he is a bully, still we have agreed on a release fee, and he will hopefully go away now. I can move onto the next one now, who hopefully is more reasonable.

We spend most of the day, going in and out of the water, I get lunch and straight after go for another snorkel, this time I saw loads of turtles, some stingrays, and a shoal of fish, which could be whitebait, thousands of them dancing along. I am so intrigued with the underwater scene, I just love it. Geoff is studying the Pelicans and the Frigate birds, and some we just do not recognize.

The bay is lovely so relaxing, and the water is so clear, at 7metres, we can see the bottom, we can watch the turtles coming up and diving again, we were only staying here for two nights, we have already been here three, this will be our fourth, with no plans yet to move on.

I have started polishing the top of boat now, and Geoff is putting the fender carriers back on, I took them off, because they are so ugly, but we need the space, so they have to go back on.

First it starts spitting with rain, then we had a downpour, the good this is it has cleared the air a bit, Geoff finishes the fender carriers off, but it was too wet to do anymore polishing.

Played crib, and I actually won, so I am chuffed again, thought I was losing my knack. Managed to get sunburn on my back, so a bit uncomfortable, too much snorkeling.

Ships Log – Wednesday 21st April 2010 – Brewer’s Bay, St.Thomas

We didn’t get up that early, but when we did, straight in the water for a swim, it is so relaxing here, we both love it. We put the generator on, before we went into the water, when we came out we noticed it was not working properly. We switched it off, and then gloom set in, but we had breakfast first, and hopefully Geoff sorts it, after that.

Fill generator up with fuel, and cross fingers, well it seems to work, it seems to have settled down again, we think because it is a bit roly, and fuel was low, it was not getting its full whack, anyway it seems to be ok now, so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

We go into water again, and just mess around on noodles, we had some lunch, then I decided to clean the bottom of boat, so Geoff tied some rope up, and with both of us in the dinghy we worked around the boat, all the green is now gone, we polished some marks out, so she is looking good again.

Another swim, it is very hot today, then Geoff starts making bread, it is funny, he hates getting his fingers messy, I was not supposed to be helping him today, but I did pour more flour over to try to get his fingers clear. Whilst waiting for the bread, I did emails and Geoff read; we had cocktails to celebrate that I have a new tenant, who wants to move in ASAP. Geoff prepared bread for cooking; he made some rolls and one loaf, everything looking good so far.

We played some dominoes, and stopped one game all, to try the rolls, and they were lovely, what a result, we took bread out later, and it is looking good for breakfast in the morning.

Having been beaten 4-1 decided to go and drown myself, so we skinny dipped round the boat which was good fun, lovely way to finish a day, think we should act our age, but hey why change now.

Ships Log – Tuesday 20th April 2010 – Brewer’s Bay, St.Thomas

Well isn’t it lovely to be able to get out of bed, after the daily cuppa, and go for a swim, I love it, on with the snorkel gear, and off we go, we went round in a big circle, didn’t matter that it was raining, we were getting wet anyway. We saw turtles, stingrays, and lots of others, we just love the fact you can watch nature. Under the water the fish are doing their thing, and above the pelicans and frigate birds, are watching and waiting, they dive head first, and it seems they always get their fish, amazing.

Most of the morning it rained, we were trying to work out the food costs, but not possible until we get some more fresh food, but we did all the receipts, and Geoff has logged them down in his computer.

In the afternoon the sun came out, and we went for another swim, this time to shore, where we sat on the beach, and just let the water cover us, so relaxing, it is like being on holiday.

In the evening we played crib, I got beaten thoroughly, just cannot seem to win at crib, so we will play dominoes tomorrow.

Ships Log – Monday 19th April 2010 – St.Thomas Harbour – Brewer’s Bay

Up early having trouble sleeping, will be glad when flat is sorted, still at least my tenant has moved out now, just need to get new ones in. We had an early breakfast, then over to the internet, for Geoff to get the news, he is worried that his crew will not get out, due to the Volcano, but as I said, if they cannot come out, nor can the organizers so it will be delayed, I am sure it will be sorted by next week. Back on board, we tidied everything away, and Geoff started to take up the anchor, we always knew it would be difficult, because of the times, we were going round in circles, but Geoff really struggled, the problem is with two chains, they wrapped themselves round each other, so Geoff could not lift them, we finally got away, and went into the marina for water, whilst Geoff was filling tanks, I nipped to supermarket for fresh milk and some vegetables, the trouble with this place is everything is shipped in, which makes it mega expensive.

We left the marina, and headed west, to Brewer’s Bay, last time we were there, the anchor slipped, so hopefully it will not do it today. Only three miles down the coast, I couldn’t be bothered to put the sails out, so we motored, not much wind anyway, and we needed to charge the batteries, will save the generator going on.

We arrived at lunchtime, so we had lunch, then Geoff played with his computer, trying to work out the cost of the food, we have all the receipts, although we still need to buy fresh, when we are in Ports, it is difficult trying to work out enough food for 60 odd days, and also you are limited with no freezer etc., tin meat hard to come by, unless you fancy dog food, so we have struggled a bit, still we have almost finished now, and they can top up in Bermuda, Azores, and Portugal, so not a problem.

We then went for a swim, didn’t see many fish, although Geoff saw five stingrays, we saw a shoal of fish, being chased by Pelican’s that was interesting. Not sure how the Pelican survives, when he dives from a great height, into the water, gets his fish, and out again,

Apart from the occasional plane landing and taking off, it is very peaceful here, and it is good to be away from the hustle and bustle of the main town.

We had a cuppa and a chocolate tea cake that I had made, then just relaxed in the peace and quiet, in the evening I had a go at making pancakes, dried milk, dried mix, just add water, still some of them were lovely. Geoff watched a film; I went to bed early to catch up with my sleep.

Ships Log – Sunday 18th April 2010 – St.Thomas Bay

Lazy morning did some tidying and cleaning, washing etc., then went into town, we are leaving tomorrow, so we need some provisions before we go. We did internet so that Geoff could get the results of F1, which seemed to be a good race, then went to Gourmet Gallery, where we managed to pick some nice things up for the next few days.

Back to boat, generator on to cook roast dinner, then cocktails were taken on the patio, we planned our next few days, and booked a marina to go into at the end, because where Geoff is leaving from, we cannot get in until 3/5.

Had a bottle of wine with lunch, then had a lazy afternoon, in the evening we played both crib and dominoes, but we came out all squares at the end of it.
